We have an exciting opportunity for a Civils Chargehand to join our team.

The role:

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to lead a civils team undertaking and delivering all aspects of civils works while facilitating the electrical engineering teams, you may occasionally work as part of a larger team.  You will work on a variety of challenging projects replacing and installing wood poles, stay anchors, substation bases, excavation and reinstatement of cable joint bays, and cable installation.

The responsibilities:

  • To carry out and reinstate excavations as directed and in accordance with HAUC and Company standards.
  • To carryout, continuously review and brief your team on hazards and risks associated with each project.
  • To complete required project documentation.
  • To lead by example and safely undertake works as directed.
  • To work safely at all times and in line with Company and statutory safety requirements.
  • To ensure that all work is carried out efficiently and in accordance with Company procedures and client/Company distribution safety rules.
  • Excavate and reinstate to relevant construction standards and exacting quality standards.
  • To highlight any concerns, unsafe conditions or acts to your line manager. 
  • To setup and demobilise sites in accordance with NRSWA ACOP (red book)

Who we are looking for:

  • A team player who is enthusiastic and willing to participate in achieving a class-leading business.
  • People who can demonstrate an exceptional knowledge of hazards associated with excavations and excavation operations.
  • Persons who can demonstrate and evidence use of buried service avoidance tools and techniques.
  • People with a full understanding of HSG 47.
  • NRSWA Operative units 1-6 inclusive.
  • People with abrasive wheels training/qualification
  • People with current DNO authorisations (Substation Access, Supervise high reach vehicle)
  • People with HIAB/lorry loader accreditation
  • People with a full Class 2 driving licence
  • People who can use tablet devices.
  • People with a risk adverse attitude.

What would be beneficial:

  • IOSH working safely qualification.
  • NPTC Chainsaw qualification.
  • Hot Works Qualification (Gas-oxy/acetylene.)
